Koh Phi Phi, Round Deux!

With the semester coming to a complete end, Sam, Astrid and I flew out to Phuket, Thailand the next day. Since we were all done school, we decided to try and tackle most of Thailand in 3 weeks before flying back to Canada. Even better, my sister Lauren was meeting met us in Phuket! The next day we were off to Koh Phi Phi. Last time I had went, we didn’t actually stay overnight on the island, so I wanted to go back to fully experience it. We stayed at the Golden Hill, which was a pretty basic place, but it was clean and close to the beach. The next two days were pure relaxation. We spent the days on the beach, getting massages, going on boat tours, and eating delicious Southern Thailand cuisine. Our favorite dish was Green Curry by the end of our stay. Green Curry is a type of curry that is quite spicy and mixed with coconut milk and vegetables. You can either eat it on its own or you can have it with rice. And for desert it was hard to avoid the Nutella or peanutbutter and banana pancakes. Yum!

Our new obsession...Green Curry

Night time in Koh Phi Phi turned into an absolute rave. First we started off the night with a bucket. The buckets included a whole mickey of the alcohol of your choice, a red bull and a can of pop. All this cost 250 Baht, which is about 10 Canadian dollars. Not too shabby! There were a ton of bars along the beach, but the most popular one is called Slinkys. Slinkys is right in the middle of the beach, with a fire tightrope stand and a best DJ and dance floor. The night started off with a fire dance, where a guy dressed like Jack Sparrow would take a swig of Vodka and then went up onto the tightrope while balancing a fire stick on his head. It was more scary to watch than impressive, but I guess the guy does it enough that he has no fear. Next, the fire limbo stick would came out. People were doing the limbo under a stick that was fully ignited. I was sure to stay away from that one. The music was unbelievable and the beach turned into a huge dance/beach party with everyone running around, dancing, and jumping Christmas light jump rope (certainly our favourite part of the night). The next night was the King’s Birthday so all the bars were closed. We decided to go watch some Thai Boxing, which ended up being tourists trying to beat eachother up. Not as amusing or authentic as we thought. We actually noticed by the end of the trip that we saw more tourists then we did actual Thai people. Koh Phi Phi is definitely a tourist hub, and isn't the place to go if you really want an authentic Thai experience. With that said, it is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen and was certainly a hell of a lot of fun. The next morning we spent our last hours on the beach before we were off to Krabi.
$10 buckets...dangerous

The famous Slinky's with Jack Sparrow on the tightrope...yikes
