Phuket and Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

We had booked a trip to Phuket on Street Deals earlier in the semester, and since we only had limited time to go, we decided to go the first weekend of November. We learned to never book a trip on Street Deals again since there are too many hidden costs and the process of redeeming your voucher was a struggle. Luckily, we finally booked it and made it to Phuket. We decided to stay in Patong, which is where most tourists stay when they go to Phuket. The hotel ended up being really nice and had a great outdoor pool. We spent the day on Patong Beach, which was a little too touristy for my liking. However, the water was nice and there were a lot of great shops in the area. We also decided to get authentic Thai Massages. We quickly learned that Thai massages aren’t quite as relaxing as we expected them, but rather you get ma-handled. Its more of a stretching kind of massage that involves a lot of bending and twisting your limbs in every way possible. I definitely felt nice and stretched out at the end, but not so much relaxed.

Our Hotel at night

At night we decided to hit up the Patong nightlife. Bangola Road is the main bar district. Once we arrived, we were very overwhelmed with the whole scene. WILD is the only way to really describe it. There were lady boys roaming the streets trying to get us to come to their “Ping Pong” shows. And let me tell you, “Ping Pong” shows are far from a game of ping pong. There were vibrant lights flashing everywhere you looked, stripper bars wide open for everyone to see, and thousands of tourists filling the street. We drank for a bit and decided to pick a bar. The bar ended up being a lot of fun. It had great music and a Jack Sparrow Mascot taking pictures with everyone (very random). Couldn’t tell you the name of it, since we bar hoped to so man different ones in one night.

The next morning was a little rough, but we were determined to catch our early morning ferry to Koh Phi Phi. Koh Phi Phi is an island quite close to Phuket that has emerald blue waters and is known for being where the famous Hollywood film “The Beach” was filmed. It was as beautiful as I had imagined and we spent the day going from island to island, taking in the beautiful views. At each stop we were able to jump into the water and swim around. The water was so clear I could see my feet perfectly. The day was sunny, making the water shimmer in the light. It was a perfect day.

At night, we hit up Bangola Road again for round two. This time we were sure to take the party bus to the bar. It is literally a little car with a covered wagon in the back for the passengers. The back includes a disco ball with really loud music, so everyone can hear it when you drive by. Overall, the weekend was a lot of fun, but since we didn’t spend the night in Koh Phi Phi, I knew I definitely wanted to go back.
